A bioclimatic pergola has a louvred roof that stays in place; a retractable pergola has a roof (fabric or louvres) that folds back to clear the sky. The first favours fine control of shade and air, the second full opening.
For a terrace used all year and exposed to rain, the bioclimatic is often preferred. To enjoy open sky with a lighter installation, the retractable is a good fit. We advise after a site visit.

It is designed for everyday use; in strong wind the roof should be folded back. A wind sensor can automate this.
